ROTARY BASICS
Rotary is the world’s largest service organisation with more than 1.2 million people belonging to Rotary Clubs in 166 countries worldwide. In Great Britain and Ireland there are some 60,000 Rotarians in over 1,800 Clubs, all helping people in need and working towards international understanding and peace.
Just over 100 years ago in Chicago four men, under the leadership of Paul Harris, came together to form a Rotary Club, an organisation devoted to fellowship and service to the community This has developed into Rotary International – a global network of service volunteers from a multitude of professions.
Internationally Rotary is involved in many projects including, with the World Health Organisation, the eradication of polio worldwide.
